QGIS is an open-source application for spatial analysis and cartographic visualization. Open source means that the source code is available to the general public for use, distribution, and modification from its original design free of charge (among a long list of other requirements). Unlike other software it is completely free, and has a growing base of users and developers. In this workshop you will learn to set up QGIS with the right projection system, pull in backdrop mapping from the web, add data from a file as a point, line or polygon layer, style the layers and add colour gradients. We will also look at 3 D mapping and profiling using QGIS plugins.
